Ipanema Beach

Now, a couple of days later, Ipanema beach was a totally different story. It was a great day, albeit a very long one I hung around the beach, wading, but not swimming, camera and all, with my shoes and socks in my daypack. There were no places for me to leave my possessions safely and I was alone. So, yes, probably a sad and pathetic spectacle of some old guy wading about waist deep into the water, and spending a lot of time that way. Sometimes, solo travel is less than desirable. The beach is lovely with islands offshore..

When I came back at the end of the day, there were still some of the merchants open and I bought some of those black berries. They taste great but have a pit

Walking toward the far end, one gets to a channel that connects the formerly heavily polluted Lagoa to the Pacific. Part of the final clean up is to keep that channel open so that during low tide the Lagoa will drain into the sea. Smart visitors and locals know the current flow and do not get into the water on the other side of the beach from this channel. This is about as far as I went on my first visit here. The sun was getting lower and I wanted to catch some of the sunset imagery at the busy part of the beach.

Which, of course, I did, once I got out of the water.
